Follow these key steps to transform fine green powder into a creamy, delicious bowl of matcha. It’s a craft that’s easy to learn and rewarding to master.
Step 1: Prep & Warm
Pour hot water into your bowl to warm it. Place your whisk in the water for about 10 seconds to soften the bamboo tines. Discard the water and dry the bowl.
Step 2: Sift Your Matcha
Use your scoop to add 1-2 scoops (about 1/2 tsp or 2g) of matcha into the bowl, passing it through a small sifter. This is the #1 trick for a clump-free, smooth foam.
Step 3: Add Hot Water (Not Boiling!)
Pour in about 2.5 oz (70ml) of hot water. The ideal temperature is ~175°F (80°C). Boiling water will scorch the tea and make it bitter.
